Before loading the car, decide where each item will go. Bottles, a broken mirror, leftover paint and a chair need different decisions. Something looking recyclable does not mean the first collection point can accept it.

Mérida’s municipal Puntos Verdes programme publishes material and preparation information. Check the particular object you have. Locations, opening arrangements and temporary notices need checking before a trip.

Sort by possible destination

Start with usable objects, materials accepted for recycling, items requiring special handling and ordinary rubbish. These are useful working groups at home, rather than a substitute for the receiving service’s instructions.

If a chair is still usable, offer it with an honest description and measurements. If it is broken, say so rather than presenting it as a ready-to-use donation. Agree who will collect it, how it will leave the house and where the handover happens. An expression of interest is not a confirmed collection.

Describe the exact object

Ask about a glass bottle, window glass, clean cardboard or cardboard with residue attached. Asking only whether a site takes glass or plastic may hide an important difference in its catalogue.

The municipal programme calls for materials to be prepared and separated, with cleaning and volume-reduction requirements according to category. Follow the instructions for that material. Do not crush glass or a hazardous container to make it fit.

  • Confirm the exact object and quantity accepted
  • Ask how it should be presented
  • Verify the location and current opening arrangements
  • Transport it without leaks or exposed sharp edges
  • Keep rejected material until an appropriate destination is found

If the collection point is closed or full, do not leave bags outside. Being beside a recycling container does not make dumping acceptable.

Give a mattress a separate plan

Before replacing large furniture or appliances, ask whether the seller removes the old item and what the service includes. With a separate contractor, agree the object, access, loading, destination and total charge in writing. A quote for a flete may cover transport without resolving disposal.

Ask the municipality or relevant provider about current alternatives. Do not assume a descacharrización campaign accepts every piece of furniture, construction debris or chemical. Check the scope of that particular collection.

Make the next clear-out easier

Keep accepted packaging in a dry space that does not obstruct the home, and set a manageable limit on how much accumulates. For paint, batteries, chemicals or unidentified materials, retain their labels and obtain specific handling instructions. Do not mix them or pour them down a drain.

Keep this separate from your ordinary household collection routine. That avoids arranging the week around a large item the regular truck may not accept.
