“See you at nine” needs a city when one person is in Mérida and another is abroad. Save meetings as events with a time zone rather than repeatedly converting them in your head. The calendar can do the arithmetic once you give it the right reference.
Use cities rather than ambiguous abbreviations
Select the zone corresponding to the event’s location in your app. Avoid writing only “CST” in a message; abbreviations can be confusing outside your usual team. Confirm the full date, time and city in writing for an important appointment.
Mexico’s time-zone law places Yucatán within the Central zone and Quintana Roo in the Southeast zone. Seasonal clock changes are limited to the northern border areas specified in the law. “Mexico time” is therefore too vague for a dependable invitation.
Separate event time from its display
Google Calendar supports event-specific time zones and displays events in the user’s local zone. Changing how a calendar is displayed should not be confused with moving the meeting to a different actual time. Check what you are editing before changing a recurring invitation.
Add a secondary zone or world clock for your team’s city if your application supports it. This makes the week easier to read without converting every call. If your phone changes zones automatically during travel, verify the result on arrival before creating new events.
Watch other people’s clock changes
Your local clock can stay the same while the difference with colleagues abroad changes. Check the first meetings after their seasonal changes. A fixed offset copied into a note is not a dependable year-round rule.
Agree what a recurring series should preserve: the head office’s local hour or the hour in Mérida. Those are different choices. If someone else owns the invitation, ask them to correct it rather than making a separate copy that will miss later updates.
Check a busy week before it starts
- Confirm the device and calendar time zones
- Inspect the event’s complete date, city and duration
- Check a future meeting beyond a seasonal change
- Review all-day events and reminders separately
- Leave realistic room between work and travel
If you are going to Quintana Roo, do not assume the hour displayed in Mérida applies to a service there. Read the provider’s confirmation. For remote meetings, also prepare your video-call fallback so you can both arrive on time and participate properly.
